Personal
Patternmaking
Novice -
using
CADTERNS
Version
5 for Windows
Personal patternmaking using the
Fit-FIRST System
begins with taking your measurements and
creating your own personal
sloper patterns. Then you cut and sew a
test garment
to pinch-fit
in order for it to feel comfortable and look
attractive.
With the CADTERNS 100
Series you will use your
personal slopers to learn how to make personal
patterns manually. Using traditional flat
patternmaking techniques with manual drafting tools,
you will learn how to accomplish specific tasks of
dart art, adjusting fullness and applying finishes.
Using either the Lite
or Pro version.,
you will instantaneously
create personal slopers at
your own computer to print or
plot with your own printer or plotter. You can
modify a sloper to meet your personal fitting
preferences then learn how
to use them to to style
new patterns using traditional flat pattern design
techniques and manual drafting tools.
You can also use your fitted sloper to alter
other patterns for personal fit.
It is recommended that you become
familiar with manual techniques before using digital
techniques. When patternmaking digitally, manual
techniques can provide a quick and comforting
cross-reference.

Digital
Patternmaking
Pro -
using
CADTERNS plus
a CAD (Computer-Aided Drafting) Program
In the CADTERNS 200
Series, you will learn how to import
personal slopers from a CAD
program. Following illustrations drawn with the CAD program
AutoSketch®, you will learn how to apply pattern styling
techniques as covered in the 100 Series,
but this time using the computer
as your tool
Note:
Other releases of AutoSketch or other CAD programs can be
used in place of the one used for illustrating
here. Alternate programs
must be capable of accepting and modifying drawing files in
AutoCAD DXF format.

Other Program (Optional)
CADTERNS
300 Series
is primarily a self-directed
study.
The
subject
may be problem solving, creating and applying 3rd
Generation slopers, or a different subject
defined by the participant and approved as suitable.
Suggestions
for self-directed exploration are
negotiable and include:
 | Develop unique
3rd generation slopers
with modifications of ease
only. Use to design your own distinctive line
for specific functions. |
 | Draw
informational and inspirational illustrations
of personal slopers and
patterns.for
sketches or pictures of fashions that you
admire. |
 |
Demonstrate expertise by planning and
fulfillment of a personal wardrobe using only
personal slopers, elements and principles of
design.
|
 | Choose a garment from a
magazine, photograph or sketch,
identify the sloper(s)
needed and
draft the pattern
and create the garment.. Apply and illustrate
similar modifications to different slopers.
|
At the
successful conclusion of
CADTERNS 300, tutorial
participants will have demonstrated an understanding
of digital ppatternmaking,
able to draft finished patterns and sew
corresponding garments or
supervise their construction by others.
Comments or commendations
may appear on the
CADTERNS Expert certificate. |
